Unknown Genes(*):
For the purposes of this calculator, all alleles(genes) entered as * are assumed to be dominant. All calculations will be performed under this assumtion. If you wish to calculate the result using the recessive genes, they will have to be entered as the desired recessive. If you are interested in seeing an advanced version of this calculator that will try dominant and recessive genes. Please express your interest by emailing us. If enough interest is shown, we will begin work on one.
Spotting (Sp):
This calculator does not include spotting. However, knowing that the spotting gene is dominant, we can assume that if either parent shows spotting the likelyhood of spotting in the litter is approximately 50%. However, because spotting is also lethal, if both parents are spotted, 25% of the expected litter will be absorbed in the womb and replaced by non-lethal combinations. So, the amount of spotted offspring is increased to approximately 67%.
Dilution (dd):
This calculator does not include dilution. However, knowing that the dilution gene is recessive, we can assume that the likelyhood of dilution in each resulting phenotype follows the standard 3:1, 1:1 ratios.
3:1 with non-dilute parents, both carrying recessive d. (3/4 non-dilute, 1/4 dilute).
1:1 with 1 non-dilute parent w/recessive d, & 1 dilute parent. (1/2 non-dilute, 1/2 dilute).
0:1 with 2 dilute parents. (100% dilute offspring)
